Q- I have been reading the following Durud (Salawat) known as Durud-e-Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) for many years due to the spectacular virtue mentioned in the Hadith. Kindly provide me with its authenticity as I have heard that it is a fabrication.
اللهمَ صلّ على محمد وعلى آل محمد في الأولينَ والآخرينَ وفي الملأ الأعلى إلى يوم الدين
This is part of a lengthy narration which Imam Ibnul Jawzi (rahimahullah) has recorded on the authority of Muhammad ibn Ishaq and others (rahimahumullah). (Al-Mutrib; Al-Qawlul Badi’, pg. 125)
In this narration, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) asked Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) : “What is the virtue of this salutation/supplication?”
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) replied: ‘O Abu Bakr, you have most certainly asked me about that which I am incapable of enumerating! For if the oceans were ink, the trees pens, and the angels scribes writing [and recording the reward], the ink would certainly perish, the pens would break, and the angels would have [still] been unable to come to the reward of this salutation!’ (Al-Qawlul Badi’, pg. 125)
However, ‘Allamah Sakhawi (rahimahullah) has declared this narration a fabrication, and, it should therefore not be quoted. (Al-Qawlul Badi’, pg. 125)
