Q- Is the story of Sayyiduna Hudhayfah ibnul Yaman (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) true wherein he picked up a morsel of food in a prestigious place and said “Should I leave the Sunnah of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) for these fools?
Have not come across this incident occurring to Sayyiduna Hudhayfah ibnul Yaman (radiyallahu ‘anhuma). Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) and other Muhaddithun have recorded a similar incident which occurred to Sayyiduna Ma’qil ibn Yasar (radiyallahu ‘anhu)
This incident has been recorded in the following Hadith books: Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3278. Sunan Darimi, Hadith: 2029. and Al-Mu’jamul Kabir of Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah), vol. 20 Hadith: 450
Note 1: The references above don’t have mention of the Sahabi referring to the non-believers as fools. Rather it states that he said: I will not abandon what I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) saying for these Non-Arabs/Non-believers.
Note 2: The Sahabi concerned in this narration was Sayyiduna Ma’qil ibn Yasar (radiyallahu’anhu).
