Q- Did Ibrahim (‘alayhis salam) say that the days spent in the fire were the best days of his life?
Have not come across mention of this in a Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).
The following narration is recorded as the statement of Minhal ibn ‘Amr; a Tabi’i:Minhal ibn ‘Amr (rahimahullah) reports: “I was informed that Ibrahim (‘alayhis salam) was cast into the fire for forty or fifty days. Ibrahim (‘alayhis salam) said: ‘ The days spent in the fire were the best days of my life, I wish that my entire life were like those days spent in the fire.” (Tafsir At Tabari, Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim, Qurtubi, Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Ad Durrul Manthur, Surah: 21, verse: 69)
This has been recorded by Imams Tabari, Abu Nu’aym and Ibn ‘Asakir (rahimahumullah) and also cited in some other Tafsir books as the statement of Minhal ibn ‘Amr; A Tabi’i. The following words appear in Hilyatul Awliya (Other versions have variations in the wording):
Minhal ibn ‘Amr (rahimahullah) said: “Ibrahim (‘alayhis salam) said: “…The days and nights spent in the fire were the best days of my life, I wish that my entire life were like those days spent in the fire.” (Surah Tafsir Tabari, Surah Ambiya, Verse: 69, Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 1 pg. 20, Tarikh Dimashq, vol. 6 pg. 191.
